Welcome

Welcome to the new home page of the Opera Guild of Northern Virginia (OGNV). Founded in 1992 and closely affiliated with the Opera Theater of Northern Virginia, this volunteer non-profit organization seeks to bring the joy of opera to the local Virginia community and develop regional support for the performing arts through fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

Introducing children to opera through outreach to parochial, private and public school systems, OGNV helps assemble audiences for OTNV's annual children's production and works with various non-profit groups to develop additional programs related to bringing underprivileged, elderly and new immigrants into the community via a universal appreciation for the arts. We invite you to explore our site-- learn more about the Northern Virginia opera community, look into membership and volunteering opportunities and above all, take note of past and upcoming performances. We encourage any feedback, questions or comments you may have and look forward to hearing from you!

Best Regards,

We Make Opera Happen

Dear Friend of Opera,

We make opera happen—but we need your help. With Guild support, the Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia (OTNV) offers operas in English at affordable prices and introduces talented young singers to the community. But perhaps our greatest success is enabling children of all economic backgrounds to explore the world of opera.

Over the past decade some 25,000 school-aged children have attended OTNV's annual family opera. By providing free tickets and subsidizing transportation, the Guild allowed special needs children to enjoy productions such as Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and Charlotte's Web. In many cases the Guild worked with teachers to integrate children's opera into the core curriculum and prepare students for the opera experience.

If you are a Guild member, thank you! We hope you will continue your valued support. If not, won't you join our efforts to bring opera to the community—especially to our children, who can learn through opera and know the joy of hearing wonderful stories told through music. Perhaps these children will provide a new generation of opera goers who will share love of opera with their children and keep the art alive.

Help us make it happen.
