Welcome

Welcome to the website for the Opera Guild of Northern Virginia.

The Opera Guild of Northern Virginia (OGNV) was founded in 1992 as a volunteer-based, non-profit charitable organization to bring the joy of opera to the local community and develop regional support for the performing arts by fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

Introducing children to opera through outreach to parochial, private and public school systems, OGNV helps assemble audiences for an annual children's production and works with various non-profit groups to develop additional programs related to bringing underprivileged, elderly and new immigrants into the community via a universal appreciation for the arts. We invite you to explore our website -- learn more about the Northern Virginia opera community, look into membership and volunteering opportunities and above all, take note of past and upcoming performances. We encourage any feedback, questions or comments you may have and look forward to hearing from you!

We Make Opera Happen

Dear Friend of Opera

Arts build a community. They strengthen our common bonds and produce an engaging and vibrant dialogue among people from around the world. We contribute to this effort by bringing opera to the local community, but we need your help. With Guild support, we have partnered with local companies to offer opera at affordable prices, introduced talented young singers to the community, and enabled children of all socioeconomic backgrounds to explore the world of opera.

Become a member today and help us continue our efforts to make opera accessible, affordable, and fun for everyone. Enjoy a variety of social activities, meet new people, and increase your knowledge of and appreciation for the fascinating world of opera!

For 18 years, the Guild has offered major financial support for an annual family opera that is attended by school children during week day performances and by children with their families and community-based organizations on weekends. Because of our efforts, 25,000 school-aged children, many of whom would not have the opportunity otherwise, have attended an opera. The performances not only offer children a unique opportunity to hear an opera sung in English, but they also learn about various opera and theatre techniques, from special effects to the intricacies of set and lighting design.

Please consider donating today so that we may continue our mission to make opera accessible, affordable, and fun for everyone!

Best Regards,
